Trail Plan

Trail Map

The trail will be off the highway along the right-of-way. At the Smithers end, it is planned to be along the west side of the highway. At about midway, it will cross the highway via a bridge and follow the east side of the highway to Telkwa.

Concept Design

In the spring of 2017, McElhanney Consulting Services Ltd. was hired to explore possible trail routes. They reported three possible routes. The Cycle 16 Board, in consultation with the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure Design Team, opted for the route that includes a bridge. See report for more details.

In the summer of 2018, McElhanney Consulting Services Ltd. was again hired to provide a more detailed concept design of a challenging elevation change in Phase 1 of the project. Phase 1 begins at the Bulkley River bridge by the Riverside Par 3 and RV Park and ends at Laidlaw Rd.

Report will be posted upon completion.

Getting Here

The planned Cycle 16 Trail will be located in the beautiful Bulkley Valley, which is in the Northwest of British Columbia, Canada.

Calling all BC Mayors - who else is in it for a #gobybikechallenge?

Mayor Ange Qualizza of Fernie BC was inspired by one of our posts about a UK Mayor who had accepted a challenge to run all of his mayoral errands by bike for 2 weeks.

So she got herself a fat bike and committed to biking to work all winter. Including today, after 17cm of snow overnight and lots more coming down! 🚴‍♀️ ❄️ 💪

Is there a plan to connect the path from the west end of the Bulkley bridge to the existing community trail by the wetlands, and if not, why? It would seem to me to be a natural progression and also promote a safe route between those locations. ... See MoreSee Less
